Immortality

Dear Immortality,

I have always been curious about the Iron Kingdoms RPG, I’ve liked the look of the various miniature games in the setting but I have never had the time or the space to play them.

Therefore I was interested your collection of linked scenarios come out. Originally published in No Quarter magazine and then re-edited for publication as a new volume.

It would appear from your contents that the line between the skirmish games and the roleplaying game is really whether you have the miniatures or not. While there is a storyline about a search for a magical immortality that runs through you, it isn’t at your heart.

Ultimately your episodic origins show through and you are a series of skirmish battles to be won with little sub-games and puzzles within each encounter. The bookends of each fight make sure that the plot progresses and sufficient exposition occurs.

I’m glad we had some time together, you helped me understand you a lot better but to be honest while your steampunk forms a compelling backdrop your chained skirmishes would probably be more enjoyable for me either in a more refined system like D&D or transformed into a straight-up skirmish wargame campaign like Frostgrave.

I’m sure there’s someone else out there who is going to love your mix of gunpowder, clockwork robots and dark alchemy a lot more than I did.
