Dragonmeet 2018

Dragonmeet felt bigger and better organised than at any time since its move to Hammersmith.

I spent most of my time either looking for small press or indie stuff in the trade hall or running some Games on Demand. The crowd for the latter was big and for the most part very open about giving something a go and diving into what was offered. This felt a contrast with last year where people arrived with a much more fixed idea of what they wanted to run.

The indie stalls were well-represented with Flame Princess, Indie RPG League, Lost Pages and loads of people just selling their zines or rulebooks. Details of what I picked up below.

I also visited the Hammersmith Christmas market for a spot of lunch which was cheaper and a lot better than the buffet weirdness available at the hotel. Something to remember for next time.

I usually try to catch the seminars or see if I can catch a game run by its creators at Dragonmeet but this year I failed at both. Although I was on the Storygames panel so maybe that counts.

The con was a lot of fun this year and its size means there were a lot of people who I see rarely so the socialising was good too.

Loot list

I picked up Mothership and Dead Planet, a horror survival sci-fi game and related setting book.

I also picked up all five issues of Black Pudding, an OSR zine, as well as Midderzine, a zine for the Midderlands setting (which was also available but quite expensive and not immediately to my taste).

New editions were available of Macchiato Monsters and Soap Bubble.

My big ticket spending was Raven’s Purge, a campaign book for Forbidden Lands. I also spent £10 on a copy of the quick start rules for Capharnaum which was a kind of glossy softcover magazine format.

I also picked up The Weird of the Wode and Best Left Buried in a deal by SoulMuppet.
