Session 3: Allies and Roach Mysteries
Return to the surface
Leaving the larder we decided to try and retrace our steps, leaving marks on the walls as we went to prevent us going round in circles. Fortunately we had not had to penetrate the chambers too deeply and we were able to return to the boat quickly.
On the trip back to the village Musun revived slightly but was then horribly sick, retching over the side of the boat.
We were concerned that perhaps the roaches had poisoned her but back at the village we went to get the help of the healer Galak and he seemed pretty confident that he could treat the problem.
Munsun was very grateful to have been rescued and rewarded us with magical gifts that belonged to her family.
A possessed baby
In the middle of the night a horrified screaming came from Lura’s hut. Thinking that roaches were attacking we hurried over but saw instead that her baby was sitting up right with black whiteless eyes and was chanting “Odi-ock” over and over again.
We tried to dispel the possession but did not have the understanding. Instead Galak prepared a powder and blew it on the child who fell back into sleep.
Ghikri mentioned that he had sometimes seen his goats to do the same thing. Apparently it can be caused by the dreams of those with strong magical power so our suspicions immediately fell on the monk Dee-Ree-Shree who had already demonstrated his powers.
Back to the caves
Before leaving the village we saw Iab going to visit Munsun and we believed that she did so to return the necklace her suitor had given her.
We said our goodbyes and once again set out for the caves. Trading for a straw hat and some supplies. The hat was to protect us against the constant drip of bat guano that blights the caves.
For science!
We decided that it would probably be better to have a guide to the underworld if we want to learn more about what the roaches were doing and why they were coming to the surface.
Dropping by the monk
On the way back to the village we talked to Dee-Wee-Shree and told him of the effect his dreaming mediations were having on the animals and babies nearby. We also asked him why he was dreaming of Odiok and he said that the mantra had a satisfying sound to him, which seemed suspicious.
He agreed to choose a different mantra that would hopefully be less disruptive.
